Brandon Hendrickson, ACT/SAT Test Prep

Brandon Hendrickson, ACT/SAT Test Prep

Goodness, do I love teaching the SAT and ACT! Does that sound absurd? Maybe I can explain why.

I always did well in school, but in high school I found myself bored and in my junior year decided to homeschool myself. I studied ancient Greek and practiced quite a lot for my SAT – on which I got a 1590 out of 1600! With that, I became a National Merit Scholar, and the first person in my family to be accepted to a four-year college.

I graduated summa cum laude from Barrett, the Honors College at Arizona State, where I got a fantastic liberal arts education. I then got my M.Ed. in Social and Cultural Foundations of Education from the University of Washington, where I got to examine education with a microscope and a fish-eye lens.

I’ve been leading students through the SAT and ACT for the last decade. It’s an opportunity to help students take on a really difficult challenge, to help lessen the stress of college admissions frenzy, and to build powerful skills they use throughout their lives – skills in reading powerfully, computing inventively, writing clearly, and thinking creatively.

I’m a brain science geek, and I’ve been developing more efficient and more powerful ways to learn. This has culminated in something I’ve created, called a "Deep Practice Book", which I was delighted to give a TED talk on at TEDxYouth@Issaquah.

I'm an aspiring polymath, moderately obsessed with topics as diverse as cognitive psychology, paleontology, the social effects of technology, moral philosophy, and first-century history. I consider it a dull day if I haven't scribbled down at least one potentially life-altering idea.

It's been my delight to help students fall a little more in love with learning, and to do it better.

"Thanks to all of Stephen’s hard work, Lauren's pre-calculus  grade has improved from a C+ to an A. She will end up with a 4.0 for the semester and we could not have done it without all the great help from Seattle Learning Professionals. Can’t thank Stephen enough for all of his help it has made a big difference."
