I’m incredibly happy to be part of the Seattle Learning Professionals team, where I can focus on helping Seattle area students get the most of their education. My teaching experience started in high school, when I began helping instructors at my martial arts school working with adults and children of all ages and learning abilities. I have since been a private tutor, a teaching assistant at Mount Holyoke College and Dartmouth College, and a horseback riding instructor.

Learning to teach is one of the best challenges I’ve ever come across. Every student has his or her own learning style so every student requires a different style of teaching. The one thing that all students need, regardless of subject or learning style, is the ability to know HOW to think instead of learning WHAT to think. Memorizing facts won’t help a student with anything more than their short-term grades; I help students learn how to apply their knowledge and think critically about the problems with which they are addressed.

I often notice that, by the end of the school year, my students are rarely stressed by tricky assignments because they have a better idea of how to approach difficult problems. In fact, many of them welcome the challenge once they realize that they can do math and science. I look forward to helping you become confident in your abilities!

"In high school I struggled with math and had a tutor for all four years. In college I was too scared to ask for help and was failing math. My teacher recommended I go to the tutorial center. That's where I met Arthur Emery, and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. He is the only person who has ever made math make sense to me. Arthur took the time to understand my learning process and worked with me until I understood the material, no matter how long it took. He is patient and will try a million different ways to help you understand the problem you are working on. I felt like he was there to help me no matter what type of math it was. Arthur was my math tutor all through college and stayed my friend long after. I would recommend Arthur to ANYONE who needs help in math!"
